As a key member of our award-winning content team, you’ll collaborate closely with the Head of Content and Editorial Director to drive innovative content strategies that resonate with readers and listeners across print, digital, newsletters, podcasts, and social channels. You’ll commission and nurture outstanding work from both in-house writers and freelancers, helping us deliver memorable, high-quality copy that our over-50s audience loves.

We work in a hybrid way at Saga both at home and in the office. In this team we work mainly from London. You will be required to be in our London Office every Tuesday and Thursday with the occasional visit to our Folkestone office for key events and community days. Other travel with the role might also be expected.

Role Responsibility • Working closely with the Head of Content and the Editorial Director to implement content strategy across all channels - the magazine, website, newsletters, social, Apple and podcast.

  • Commissioning and editing content designed to grow our multi-platform audience and increase engagement, as well as maximise revenue and onward traffic on our website to our business units.
  • Reviewing and editing content before publication for factual accuracy and legal safety and alignment with brand standards and goals.
  • Ensuring that we, as an award-winning brand, maintain editorial excellence with a consistent tone of voice.
  • Analysing content performance metrics and using them to inform editorial strategy and enhance engagement.
  • Assisting with managing the editorial team and supporting them to produce high quality content that drives subscriptions, online traffic, newsletter sign ups, social media follows and app and podcast downloads.
  • Staying up to date with industry trends, audience behaviours and best practice in content.
  • Assisting the Head of Content in securing interviews with high profile cover stars, leveraging personal contacts and networks and liaising with agents and publicists.
  • Commissioning skilled and experienced writers to conduct the celebrity interviews with a focus on securing newsworthy and interesting quotes that will interest readers and secure media attention.

The Ideal Candidate You will be a credible editor / content manager who is full of compelling ideas and skilled at commissioning and editing content that resonates with our Saga audience and their evolving interests. You’ll already be established in this space with some solid relationships in the media arena that could potentially widen our celebrity booking reach. You may have previously worked as a Deputy Head of Content or Senior Commissioning Editor.

You will also be able to demonstrate the following skills and experiences;

  • People management skills and Leadership skills
  • Be a self-starter who works independently
  • Excellent writing, commissioning and editing skills - Strong attention to detail
  • A flexible approach with a willingness to take on additional responsibilities
  • Have previously worked on national magazines and/or newspapers

Desirable;

  • Degree educated, ideally with a postgraduate qualification in journalism.
